A worksheet for comparing hospital proposals

A meaningful comparison starts with documented information for the particular care you are discussing. Keep a record of what each organization has actually confirmed rather than treating a directory badge or a sample profile as evidence.

01 / THE DETAILS

Create one record for each proposal

Use the same headings for every option: organization and location, clinician or team named in the proposal, issue date, proposed scope, quoted amount, exclusions, payment recipient and contact channel. Keep the original document beside your notes so that a summary can be checked.

Mark unanswered questions as unknown. Do not score a missing answer as a positive result or assume that two similarly named procedures include the same services.

  • Does the proposal identify the specific facility and responsible provider?
  • What assessment is still required before acceptance?
  • Which parts of the proposal could change and who explains those changes?
02 / THE DETAILS

Ask for the evidence behind a claim

If accreditation or professional registration is stated, ask for the awarding body, identifier, facility or professional covered, and validity information. Verify the details with the relevant official body instead of relying on a copied logo.

Keep the source link and date of your check. The CDC notes that accreditation does not guarantee an outcome. This worksheet is an administrative comparison tool, not a ranking of clinical quality or a recommendation of a hospital.

03 / THE DETAILS

Compare the financial scope line by line

Record the currency and whether taxes, assessments, consumables, room arrangements and follow-up are explicitly included or excluded. Ask how changes are quoted and accepted. Compare the scope before calculating the difference between totals.

Keep travel costs separate. A cheaper medical estimate could be paired with a different length of stay or additional journeys; the provider must clarify the schedule relevant to your case.

04 / THE DETAILS

Agree how questions and changes will be handled

Ask who will answer your questions, which channel to use and what response arrangements actually exist. Record the complaints route, the party responsible for each payment, and where the cancellation terms are written.

Keep your own selection notes separate from medical records. Share sensitive records only through an appropriate authorized channel. Prognova's sample directory illustrates an interface; it is not a verified shortlist.

Keep this checklist

Print this page or use these headings in your own notes. Do not put sensitive medical details in a public planning tool.

  • Save the original proposal and its date.
  • Compare the same scope and currency.
  • Check claimed credentials with the relevant official body.
  • List excluded costs and unanswered questions.
  • Record contact, cancellation and complaints details.
